White Spring ahead!

“Upper Chic” editorial featuring Nadja Bender for Vogue Paris, February 2013.

If Couture Fashion Week in Paris is a good indicator of what our Spring might look like we can certainly say that we are up for a white Spring ahead! Almost all from Alexis Mabille to Valentino showed at least one full white outfit for upcoming Spring season.

I don't know what your stand is on wearing white but I must say that I almost never wore full white outfit, partly for fear of looking wider but also due to the fact that during work week I wear one outfit for the whole work day and I am not so sure that full white outfit would stay white all through the day.

Nevertheless, I decided to give it a shoot after seeing these amazingly wearable couture pieces shown on Paris runway during last couple of days. For the start, I am looking for white stilletoes to get in the full white mood periodically.

I loved recognizable Valentino pieces featuring his one of a kind cuts and heavy duty hand work on embroidery and piping. Absolutely magical show!

Surely, I cannot forget my always favorite McQueen lead by extraordinary Sarah Burton who is faitfully following late Alexanders signature with her all white Pre-Fall 2013. collection as the house canceled Paris show this year.

Dreft Fashion Week Zagreb favorites

Lenardo Cano FW 2012/13 - Madrid

Long time no post when I probably should have considering that Dreft Fashion Week Zagreb has been going on in my city last week, but wearing two hats during this event - PR for main event sponsor and naturally a blogger and a fashion lover got the best of me, not sparing one second of my week.

Nevertheless, I managed to complete all my work related task and fly over to the wedding at beautiful Dubrovnik (post shall follow) on Saturday night. Dreft Fashion Week Zagreb has traditionally hosted some young Croatian and well known international designers and with this post I present you my favorites from both camps.

Is obviously specially intrigued with  shapes and volume, his collections are over the top voluminous and female curves and joints exaggerated while still symmetrical and quite theatrical.  I loved the detailing and 3D fabrication effect he has given to the pieces with combining different sowing technics with fabric patterns. Arabian influence is quite visible in this collection but my favorite is the way he made leather shirts fits so naturally and comfortably as if they are made of cotton. Also, I am quite impressed with the way he made woolen pieces so voluminous. Although quite coutureish still very wearable collection!

In my review of Basso & Brooke collection from last years DFWZ you could have seen how much I love digital print & florals. Hermione de Paula didn't fail to impress me with her feminine, female figure faltering and oh so wearable «Marguerute's Menagerie» collection of shoes and clothes. She indeed managed to evoke the dark Lolita she was inspired by when creating this collection. I loved the way she played with floral prints which transformed into animalistic shapes & the way tops and bottoms are naturally fitting together but still gorgeous as separates.

Has narrated a quite emotional story with his collection.Judging by the looks at people's faces in Zagreb many didn't really get it, which I am sorry for.  His collection "Selam 1 and 2" is envisioned as a pathway in between life and death, leading the soul to another world, influence of the Muslim culture is more then noticeable. Safak Tokur used great quality materials and presented his collection in quite an innovative way. I loved the way he doubled up the shoes so each men's shoe looked like it is glued on another one.

MARTINA SPORIŠ
Is a young Croatian designer whose intention is always to surpise and/or shock her audience. She described her collection as a combination of punk and barok, double-faced, zip & unzip combo. Martina showed her great tailoring skills and although not a great quality materials were used she has showed an amazing potential to create that couture - RTW combo which sells well! Great job Martina!

This line is divided on two lines: main one and the black line, although usually two opposites, in the FW 2012/13 collection these two lines have combined and matched into one whole. Featuring quite a androgynous, monochromatic, wearable & simple collection. I loved the way that cotton and wool/cashmere were forming spiderweb affect making simple tailoring & fabrication more daring & effortlessly sexy.

IGGY POPOVIĆ
Has positively surprised me on and off the runway with his simplicity, politeness and kindness to his show team. His 50's inspired collection is flirty, soft falling, curve hugging, playful and quite commercial. The collection has flirted with shapes of university and prep school uniforms, rockabilly stage and baseball Americana look. I loved the floral fabrication in inner pockets of shorts and gorgeously tailored nude pajama pants.Casual clothes made of luxurious fabrics, lace and silk? Yes please! I'll take it any day!

Which show was your favorite lovelies?

Best of Spring 2012. Couture

Photo source: www.style.com - Giambattista Valli

I absolutely adore and follow RTW seasonal collections but my heart is definitely with couture lines. The Fall 2012. Couture season in Paris despite ever growing economic crises didn't disappoint.
Bouchra Jarrar
Business smart designer who's made precise tailoring the key aspect of her work, Jarrar called her new collection a "continuation of the wardrobe, of the story I've been telling since the beginning." The collections focus is on cut, double-breasted silhouettes, emphasized shoulders which continue to remain in trend from season to season, military buttons, fox fur and circular scarves, sleeveless coat dresses and lovely strong women suits. I love the comfortable look and feel of the gray suit in combination with brown accessories and circular fox fur.

Giambattista Valli
Giambattista has absolutely showed his mastery of couture inspired by an old Hollywood glamour.  My favorites were sleeveless crocodile top which emphasized waist and transitioned into a peplum flare over a white lace pencil skirt.

Jean Paul Gaultier
Designer celebrated the life of late Amy Winehouse, using her as inspiration for his couture collection with a help of corsetry wizard Mr.Pearl. The whole collection was a big wonderful couture mess of an excess featuring satin peignoir, pencil skirts, gorgeous lace, silk parkas, sequins and finally parading veils.

Chanel
Karl presented all the shades of blue you can think of in his couture collection featuring streamlined, upbeat, tons of embroidery and forward-looking, slash pockets on dresses, boyish attitude... this collection had that well known Chanel's boy-girl thing going on, girls looked as comfortable in these couture pieces as men would in sweats on Sunday afternoon.

Versace
The focus of the Atelier Versace collection were „warrior women“ gowns with corset waist, daring lace teasing at strategic spots hugging the curves and exaggerating the waist, hips or shoulders, shaping the perfect hourglass figure with gold metal inserts.

Elie Saab
Known as red carpet designer, due to his shinny and sparkly but romantic and effortlessly floating gowns in none intrusive pastel shades. The unprecedented strength of his gowns is the lightness; they look and feel so light.

Dior
Bill Gayten did a wonderful, maybe a bit reminiscent of the past collection featuring sheer layers, classic black and white floral designs, gorgeous embroidery, splashes of sequins, lovely contrast in between thick massive black crocodile scales and sheer floaty fabrics.

Valentino
Designers Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri were inspired by French royalty culture and created a collection of gentle floral print, lace embellished, sheer organza, light, feminine, modest and delicate dresses. They were at the same time practical, cultural but modern despite long sleeves and high necks.

Spike me please!

BAM! Lets get spiked!
From Topshop to Louboutin, H&M to Burberry and McQueen, season in and season out – they are rockin’ the runway and seems like they’re here to stay! Spikes – darlings!

All Burberry

To be worn by bad girls go out, or good girls gone bad –everybody seem to want to get spiked. I have selected some of the amazingly spiked pieces of clothing and accessories available now on your favorite online & bricks and mortar shops for you to get inspired. I myself love to wear gentle summer florals, nudes and powder pinks however each of us has that f… off world moment when we just get in the moods that call for dark and spiky pieces.

Even men wear spikes for some extra manliness and some bad boy appeal ;)

All photos source:Google

I am a definitely a mood rather than occasion inspired dresser so my spiky looks tend to come out either when I am feeling extra fierce or super fragile so I need some spiky heels for protection.

It’s a dangerous world out there ladies! You got your spikes on?

Cannes goes vintage

So, other than fast cars, easy women in expensive designer clothes holding hands with tanned older guys in polo shirts with bad hairdos - Cannes has an awesome vintage market on Sunday mornings.

Awesome - meaning that you can find vintage pieces of real value, well preserved but the prices are extremely high! (Guess they are going for above mentioned clientele).

Vintage purses and designer costume jewelry were my favorite finds.
Bellow you can see the photos of the most interesting pieces I found.

Uu...I also visited the perfume museum in Grasse – take a look at the Marie Antoinette cosmetic cases bellow! Can you say DIVAAA! :)

Enjoy lovelies!
p.s. Next time - I am taking orders and keeping the commission - hehe :)
