White Spring ahead!

“Upper Chic” editorial featuring Nadja Bender for Vogue Paris, February 2013.

If Couture Fashion Week in Paris is a good indicator of what our Spring might look like we can certainly say that we are up for a white Spring ahead! Almost all from Alexis Mabille to Valentino showed at least one full white outfit for upcoming Spring season.

I don't know what your stand is on wearing white but I must say that I almost never wore full white outfit, partly for fear of looking wider but also due to the fact that during work week I wear one outfit for the whole work day and I am not so sure that full white outfit would stay white all through the day.

Nevertheless, I decided to give it a shoot after seeing these amazingly wearable couture pieces shown on Paris runway during last couple of days. For the start, I am looking for white stilletoes to get in the full white mood periodically.

I loved recognizable Valentino pieces featuring his one of a kind cuts and heavy duty hand work on embroidery and piping. Absolutely magical show!

Surely, I cannot forget my always favorite McQueen lead by extraordinary Sarah Burton who is faitfully following late Alexanders signature with her all white Pre-Fall 2013. collection as the house canceled Paris show this year.

The best of Fall Couture 2012. Fashion Week

The common theme for the Fall Couture 2012. Fashion Week was surely this new Noir we are seeing across collections. This is what I loved the most - gorgeous luxurious gowns made of expensive French empire lace flirting with vintage silhouettes.

ELIE SAAB
Known by his red carpet gowns didn't disappoint. Collection consisted solely of gowns and cocktail dresses rich with Chantilly lace, sequins and crystals. Collection was mostly black smaller number of pale pink, blue and gold lace pieces.

ZUHAIR MURAD
This Lebanese designer has entered the "red carpet star dressing" world by dressing young actress Blake Lively and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez on her tour. His bellow shown Fall 2012. couture collection is obviously targeting 20+ young starlets with shown cocktail dresses and red carpet gowns with emphasized waiste, high cut maxi gowns and long lace numbers. I particularly love the old Hollywood 50's glam one can sense from this collection. Murad did not forget about his more conservative a bit older clients, designing a nice versatile range of gorgeous, finely embroidered gowns.

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
This "Artisanal" collection was about reinventing, refurbishing vintage pieces by hand into new designs. Collection was rich with silk, lace, row cotton and beaded pieces embellished with destroyed and "refurbished" pieces like crystal doorknob, windsurfing sail and vintage baseball glows - far right on the photo.

My favorite (of course on top of mysterious crystal masks) were simple French lace straight trousers worn on couple of models while most of the attention was drawn by comprehensive pieces worn on top of the body.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Inspired by 20's, 30's and Metropolis JPG showed us quite an interesting collection featuring metal headbands, top hats and perfectly cut garments. For my liking, it was a bit to much this time, it was a bit to over the top and confusing with having to many men's pieces overlapping with women's insinuating androgynous look but in a quite annoying and over the top way. All of the individual pieces are made with amazing precision and craftsmanship and can definitely look brilliant worn separately.

ALEXANDRE-VAUTIER
This collection is clearly made for "look at me" kind of girl, reminding on as one fashion journalist wrote "golden age of disco" however I liked the elements of it very much and find them quite wearable, well at least on special occasions and naturally if you have body for it.
I particularly liked the sporty fabric mixes (Neoprene) and lovely tailored peplum jackets which I would wear with skinny jeans and plunge-necked cocktail long sleeve dresses which could be pulled out by girls with not so big chest.

I am really looking forward to seeing these pieces in magazine editorials! Which collections was your absolute favorite lovelies?

NYFW Spring 2012. What's trending?

As I know that bloggers all over the world following the current NY and other upcoming fashion weeks are typing and posting furiously loaded with red bull, coffee and finger food given out on numerous FNO and fashion week promo events and after parties, for this season I decided to post less but more detailed posts every two days covering the overall trends and highlighting my favorite collections.

Now when I have seen each end every detail of each and every show in the first 2.5 days I am more than thrilled with a couple of noticed trends, let me show you my favorites!

PUT YOUR BEST LEG FORWARD!
Many designers have closed their show traditionally with gorgeous red carpet desirable gowns however this season I am noticing a welcomed trend of split leg maxi dresses and skirts combined with fabulous sheer shirts or even better, made to be worn without bra, be it jersey dress in bright pink or royal blue, classic black or shimmery chocolate night gown or a floral print maxi skirt, tall girls this season is all about you(us)!

COLOR ME HAPPY!
Seems like the more negative mood in terms of living standard and economy downturn the brighter the clothes,ya? Whatever the reason might be, there is no better way to welcome the spring sun then by wearing a bright smile and bright color dress! Spring 2012, will adore: royal blue, powder pink, bright neon yellow, color blocking sets and bright orange.

WEAR LEATHER AS A SECOND SKIN!
Ever since I have seen amazing maxi dress by Fyodor & Golan last year at Dreft Fashion Week Zagreb, I am totally in love with how leather dresses fit and feel on the skin. Here is my selection of Spring seasons favorites.

CRAZY ABOUT TOURBANS!
Those of you who follow my blog will already know from my past posts and tutorials how much I love wearing hatsand turbans. Indeed, many designers are bringing the head covers in different shapes and forms in lovely mint green, fuchsia and knotted white colors into their collections. Seems like recent seasons highlight the return of the lady!

SHE MEANS BUSINESS!
I don’t remember the season where I saw so many working women friendly designs. Indeed, fashion designers are turning towards where the money is! This season brings more classic, more comfortable designs worn with much smaller heels for effortlessly chic and comfortably classy “I mean business” power women look! Not to mention super cute shorts-suites! Its time to show of your power legs, power women!

CLEAN WHITES.
Country club favorite but always elegant white sheer dresses, ever present collar shirts, sheer tops for most confident, tailored jackets and vamp dress! Amazing & timeless! White is a spring’s black!

Watch shows live 8-14.09. via live stream on Youtube.

"The key to longevity is to keep doing what you do better than anyone else. We work real hard at that.
It's about getting your message out to the consumer.
It's about getting their trust, but also getting them excited, again and again. My clothes.. the clothes we make for the runway.. aren't concepts.
They go into stores.
Our stores.
Thankfully, we have lots of them."

RIP Lee

Today is a sad, sad day for the fashion industry. Alexander McQueen has killed himself. A little while ago his mother has died who he has been very close with, he had a very hard time managing the depression and finally he has sadly decided to take his own life.

Please see my favorite magnificant pieces from his last Resort 2010. collection bellow.
It will be so wird watching his collection for Fall without seeing him running out at the end :(

Alex,

you will be gratelly missed, your heritage remains.

"I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern — wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passé. It’s a new era in fashion — there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together. "
